De-activated Facebook.
Goodbye
It feels surreal. Silly even, but I knew it needed to happen.
When I first started my FB account it was to keep in touch with a few friends and family back home in New Zealand after we moved to Australia. A place to share photos of our life and let people know whats going on in our world.
But it slowly became something I no longer liked. A weird sort of voyeurism, and it was taking over my world.
In essence the idea of facebook is good, but I was spending far to much time on it, reading about the comings and goings of people I hardly even know, friends from long ago and really it was all false relationship. I was also tired of having conversations with people that went something like this "How have you been?"...begin response "Yeah I saw that on Facebook" Its kind of a conversation killer.
So this morning i began to delete people who I didn't really need to communicate with, but it was CRAZY slow and I began to think again, just delete your account. I searched around for a while to see if I could download my photos and when I found the archive button under account settings I decided it was time.
I saved my pictures and deleted my account.
Gone!
Well not quite, they say its all there if i want to log back in again. Grrr.
Of course this means i will now use this place as a forum to share our lives with friends and family. Which is a good thing, because I want to continue blogging, I want this to grow.
And in order to grow I actually need to post. Haha
And now for a few gratuitous photos of my gorgeous children.
Eli when he was here in June.
Yes I failed to post about it. hehe
The girlies have been learning to skate. daddy is well pleased. apparently they are naturals. unlike their mother who will fall over just looking at the things.
Us. taken at a recent carols event.
And finally, Boyboy, cuter than ever and nearly One.
Hope you are all still alive and kicking.
WEZA
Yay good for you weza (so know what you're going through) In a few weeks you wont even miss it and you'll love all the extra time you have to get things done :)...*I say shrinking as I jumped back on the wagon...;)
ReplyDeleteIf you want it gone gone you can apply to fb to have it permanently deleted. They give you two weeks to change your mind and as long as you don't log back in during that time it does get completely wiped.
see I'm a pro at this...
sad huh
x
I look forward to seeing more here Weza!!!

ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous family you are! Well done on the FB thingie. I can't believe how much your baby boy has grown! He is absolutely scrumptious.... Meredy xo
ReplyDeleteI am almost a year without facebook
ReplyDeleteand yes. if I log in (which I tried just to see what happens...)
IT IS ALL STILL THERE
and frankly, I do NOT like that
intimacy and what we savor as private and what is truly appropriate...well, I think with FB all of that crosses a blurry line.
I also really didn't care what the girl I knew in 8th grade cooked for dinner.
We have turned all of our lives into a reality show of sorts, and yet, reliving and revisiting and reading about the minute to minute life of a person you sort of know...well, I found it took me OUT of my reality.
And I wanted my life back.
my real life.
deactivate, and walk away...and everytime you get the urge to log on...say a prayer instead. Or make some coffee. Or put on lipstick.
much better things to do with your time....
like say...CALL A REAL FRIEND :-)
good job
Good on you! I have been contemplating doing that for ages! Maybe I'll be courageous as you one day. I will miss you on there though :-(
ReplyDeleteHiya! I have been following you for a while now, so I thought I would say hi and tell you how gorgeous your family is and how much I enjoy reading the blog :)
